Product Overview
Description
Flaming June woven tapestry features the work of the artist Lord Frederic Leighton.
Of the works of Lord Frederick Leighton, this piece "Flaming June" is considered his most famous work, or his opus magnum. Featuring the classic style, this piece shows a woman in a striking golden dress sleeping. In the Flaming June tapestry on the top right we see the toxic Oleander branch, which symbolizes the fragile link between sleep and death. The actress Dorothy Dene and Mary Lloyd have been credited for being the model for this work. Since its production in 1895, this piece has been alluded to in various musical pieces. We see the glorious golden dress which adds to the dreamy feel of the piece, and the details of the creases and folds in the fabric of the garment is exquisite. Leighton's work is often drawn to subjects from the medieval and classical period and he renders the subject matter with his own idyllic impression that is his hallmark.
